Cuneiform

Cuneiform　is a logo-syllabic script that was used to write several languages of the Ancient Middle East. The script was in active use from the early Bronze Age until the beginning of the Common Era. It is named for the characteristic wedge-shaped impressions (Latin: cuneus) which form its signs. Cuneiform was originally developed to write the Sumerian language of southern Mesopotamia (modern Iraq). Cuneiform is the earliest known writing system however spoken languages date further back.

くさびがたもじ、せっけいもじ）とは、メソポタミア文明で使用されていた古代文字である。

筆記には水で練った粘土板に、葦を削ったペンが使われた。最古の出土品は紀元前3400年にまで遡ることができる。文字としては人類史上最も古いものの一つであり、古さでは紀元前3200年前後から使われていた古代エジプトの象形文字に匹敵すると言われている。
